Great Plains Network Regional CI Plan (2024)

Great Plains Regional Cyberinfrastructure Plan

GPN connects research and education networks in six states (ARE-ON, KanREN, MOREnet, OneNet,
Network Nebraska, and SD-REED Network) to Internet2, ESnet and Pacific Wave. All states participating
in GPN connect in either Kansas City, MO or Tulsa, OK with at least one 100GE connection - 10GE
connections are also in use and available for specific projects. GPN provides redundant connectivity for
several other affiliated campuses and networks outside the GPN region and peers with other regional
networks for access to content delivery networks. GPN interconnects with Internet2 with 4x100GE with
plans for an additional 1x400G in 2024. In addition GPN connects to ESnet with a 1x400G connection.

The network has robust monitoring and reporting via the GlobalNOC and 24x7 support via MOREnet and
OneNet. GPN operates perfSONAR nodes and a MaDDash mesh for monitoring and debugging. Network
performance is reviewed by the GPN Network T echnical Advisory Committee (GPN-NTAC), comprising
representatives from each member state network. The GPN-NTAC makes recommendations to the GPN
Network Program Committee (GPN-NPC). The GPN-NPC also receives recommendations from member
institutions as well as from the GPN Cyberinfrastructure Program Committee.

With respect to IPv6, GPN is fully IPv6 enabled and advertises IPv6 routes. GPN is a Research &
Education member of the InCommon Federation and operates both Identity Management and service
providers. GPN offers a federation among members and support members in their efforts to become part
of a regional and national federated identity framework.
