ESnet Remote Performance Wireless Monitoring

Diagnosing connectivity issues over remote site wireless links can be difficult. 

• Link health may be impacted by limits on electricity, for example the effects of weather on photovoltaics, or temperature on battery systems.
• Environmental factors, such as foliage, other seasonal changes, may impact signal quality
• Interference from other RF spectrum uses and users
• Mechanical degradation of connections, cables, etc
• Changes in software or firmware, or other components

ESnet can provide you with a long-term connection monitoring unit, built from a small-board Raspberry Pi computer, running PerfSonar. The unit can be provided with its own solar panel, or can be connected to your services - it uses about 5w steady state.  The system is designed to use as little of your data backhaul resources as possible, and can also be set to report in only at specified times or on a specific schedule.
