Co-Design and Greenfield Site Support
ESnet has gained a substantial amount of experience working with remote field science programs.

Setting up for RF measurements in Utah
For example:
- ESnet has built and operated a remote site cellular tower at 3300m elevation outside Crested Butte, CO
- We have worked with geothermal sites in Nevada and Utah
- We have performed site surveys, via our mobile wireless test tower, supporting scientists in a variety of locations in rural California
- We have collaborated with DOE and NSF programs in Tasmania, Illinois, Michigan, and elsewhere, and have ties to the field sensor community through both DOE science efforts, as well as through support communities emerging through partners like Internet2, Cal-Poly San Luis Obispo, University of Nevada, and others.

Private wireless in the snow
As resources and science priorities permit, we may be able directly assist your science data mobility efforts in the field. The main co-design and deployment support we can provide are:
1) Onsite RF measurement campaigns - we can bring a completely self-contained, battery powered mobile tower system supporting CBRS private cellular, LoRA, directional Wifi, satellite networks, etc. and use this to conduct site measurements. These direct measurements, combined with simulations for RF propagation, can provide an additional amount of certainty that the coverage plan and equipment your science program will deploy will meet performance needs.
2) We can deploy LAN/WAN capabilities directly depending on your sponsorship, science needs, and workflow demands - if and when this makes the most sense to advance DOE science mission activities. Examples of such cases are situations where multiple DOE science projects are deploying assets in the same area, and an ESnet solution will provide cost, spectrum and deployment efficiencies.
